Our movement depends on the activism, energy and determination of volunteer activists. We organise at both a local and a national level, through local groups and large-scale action days.

Make Votes Matter offers extensive support, promotion and co-ordination to anyone wanting to campaign locally for Proportional Representation in the House of Commons. The current FPTP electoral system disadvantages everyone. Evidence shows that securing a change to Proportional Representation (PR) would result in better and more meaningful representation for all communities, and people of all cultures and ethnicities.

The grassroots movement has a vital role to play in building public understanding and support, persuading leaders to actively campaign for equal votes, and holding those leaders to their word.
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, check out our Volunteers Needed page for more details. We also have a wealth of printable resources for activists, just click the link below.

Find Your Local Group

Your can view a groups' locations and contact details on this map or check our calendar of upcoming local meetings.

By being a part of a local campaign group, you will be playing an important role in the biggest improvement to our democracy since women won the vote.

All local groups are independent - our role is to help them make a success of their campaigns.

If there isn't already a local group in your area we would love to help you set one up. People all over the country are shut out of our democracy, so it's surprisingly easy to get lots of local people interested. Make Votes Matter can help every step of the way - including by sending a member of our team to help with your first meeting.

Call a local meeting

You don’t need to be an experienced activist, an electoral reform expert or a natural leader to organise a first meeting. Make Votes Matter can help every step of the way - we will even come and speak at your meeting if you'd like us to.

Nor do you have to start from scratch. With a growing number of people campaigning for Proportional Representation up and down the country, we've assembled the Local Group Toolkit, based on the wisdom and experiences of activists working in the field.

The easiest way to get in touch with other supporters in your area is to call a local meeting. Most of our groups now run their first meetings online and MVM has a zoom account available for hosting these meetings.

The first step is to send our grassroots team an email letting them know you’re thinking of starting a group. They will be in touch to figure out a date and help you spread the word. At the meeting you’ll no doubt find others keen to help and you’ll be off the ground campaigning for equal votes in no time!
