Labour Leadership candidates: what we've learnt

In early January, Joe Sousek from Make Votes Matter and LCER set out early thoughts on the Labour Leadership candidates and where they stand on Proportional Representation (in a blog that ended up being cited in the Guardian!). With just two months to go and the field cut down to four, here’s what we’ve learnt.

Remember to sign our petition to all the Labour Leadership candidates calling on them to promise electoral reform and set out their plans for how they’ll bring in Proportional Representation!

Rebecca Long-Bailey

Position: open to Proportional Representation - and supports a constitutional convention to review the voting system.

Keir Starmer

Position: wants electoral reform to address the millions of people who “feel their voice doesn’t count” - and supports a constitutional convention to review the voting system.

Lisa Nandy

Position: wants to “trial” Proportional Representation for some local election areas only.

Emily Thornberry

Position: Opposes Proportional Representation.
